City Financial announces independent fund research service for advisers

  • Free, web-based Adviser Centre to be launched in spring 2014
  • Initiative features list of recommended, established funds, as well as ‘Positive Watch’ fund list

City Financial Investment Company Limited (City Financial), the growing London-based independent fund manager, announces a new service for advisers to streamline their business processes, providing enhanced support in a post-RDR environment of increasing regulatory and competitive challenges.

The Adviser Centre is being developed by Peter Toogood and Gill Hutchison who joined City Financial’s multi-asset team, led by Mark Harris, on 1st October 2013. The pair have a combined 35 years’ experience in fund research and consultancy.

The web-based service will offer independent fund research, together with general market and industry commentary for financial advisers. It will provide material and information on third party funds, with the aim of helping independent advisers with the challenge of covering the whole of the market.

The team plans to use its extensive research and consultancy experience to provide information and opinion on funds that are on ‘Positive Watch’, a platform for commentary on younger investment talent and product innovations. The Positive Watch list will be dynamic in nature and include managers who the firm believes have capability and potential to be successful, as well as more experienced managers who may have recently changed firm, mandate or product.

Additionally, City Financial will recommend around 100 established, actively managed funds, which will be built around the critical elements of investment quality, utility and cost.

Peter Toogood, Investment Director, City Financial says, “We recognise that advisers face an array of challenges which necessitate a range of solutions. We have served the adviser community for many years and at City Financial, we will continue to offer an independent perspective. As multi asset investors ourselves, we are definitively aligned with advisers’ interests.”

Gill Hutchison, Head of Investment Research, City Financial says, “We are confident that generating information that is accurate and up-to-date, in a simple and focused format, will appeal to advisers. Not only do independent advisers need to identify attractive investments, but they also need to demonstrate why they are appropriate investments. We seek to help them in this task by explaining a fund’s characteristics and what role it might play in a portfolio.”

The Adviser Centre is the latest stage in City Financial’s expansion of its multi-asset offering to provide enhanced support for advisers in an increasingly challenging investment and regulatory environment. The services are aimed at providing support for advisers in their investment processes.

Andrew Williams, Chief Executive Officer, City Financial, says: “The firm is in a position to adapt and evolve its service offering as the requirements of advisers change. We believe that the future of fund management firms lies in providing a complete, solutions-based package of services, including fund research and consulting. With their vast experience, Peter and Gill are ideal additions to progress the new offering within the multi asset team.”

“City Financial is placing itself at the heart of these issues by helping advisers in their aim of providing appropriate and insightful investment advice to their clients. We hope that through the Adviser Centre, we can help advisers to work more efficiently, leaving them more time to concentrate on the demands of assessing individual client needs.”
